time vs money for web design

How Much Should a Website Cost? FIND OUT HERE!

A friend friend of mine asked me what I’d charge to set up a website for his resort business and How Much Should a Website Cost?

Since i was so busy, I told him i didn’t have time to build one for him at the moment, and told him to simply search the net and make some inquires for rates.

So my friend sent inquiries to several designers and developers, expecting a lot of work for very small budget.
He got very frustrated when he didn’t get many responses and the ones he did get were way over priced for his budget.

“Are these people crazy?” he asked. “All these people want a lot more money than I’m willing to pay!”
My response to him was “You Get What You Pay For”.

What Is Your business Worth? And is it worth paying extra for a great looking, high ranking website?

Bargain shopping is great if you need a camera, cloths or a car, but not when you need a professional website or service, it just doesn’t work that way.

Lets say you need hip replacement surgery, would you A) bargain shop for the best price? or B) would you get the best Dr to do it right regardless of the cost?

After helping hundreds of businesses to create their websites, I’ve done and seen a lot.

The value of designers or developers goes beyond just the design of the website.

Their experiences, technical skills, and broad product knowledge can help you.

  • Avoid hidden technical and financial pitfalls; and
  • Choose the right solution for your budget level, technical level, and how much time you are prepared to commit.

If you are looking for a web design price chart for everything that has to do with building a website and getting it to RANK HIGH IN THE SEARCH ENGINES, there are plenty of resources scattered all over the internet.

How Much Should a Website Cost is Asking the wrong question!

How much a website should cost is a very generic question, it lacks a lot of specifics.

It’s the same as if I were to ask you how much should a car cost? Uh, well, can you be more specific?
What type of car do you want? – Does it need to be gas efficient? – What do you use it for? – What is your budget?

You can quickly see “how much does a car cost?” is actually quite a pretty complex question.
Just like budgeting for a car, the cost of a website is different to different people because everyone values the concept of “cost” in different ways.

For example, if you are a busy resort owner that has 50 things you have to do daily. You might value your time over money.
You would probably want to pay a little more to get things done right and on time.

For others that have all the time in the world to learn to code and do graphics, seo, database programming, hosting, security updates, troubleshooting etc, they may think they are overpaying for my services.
But when it comes to me, it’s a very fair price to pay.

Simply put, the cost of building your website boils down to 4 resources:

  • Time
  • Technical knowledge (or your interest to learn to code)
  • Design skills (or your willingness to learn design)
  • Money

So how you budget for your website, you should take into consideration:

  • How much time you are prepared to commit to learning web design;
  • How much money you are prepared to invest into hiring a professional webmaster; and
  • The missed opportunity costs of being able to use your time on higher valued business or personal things.

Using hashtags – what are the top Top Hashtags

How do I use hashtags?

Hashtags turn topics and phrases into clickable links in your posts on your favorite social networks like Twitter, Facebook as well as Stumbleupon and Google+ Timeline or Page. This helps people find posts about topics they’re interested in. To make a hashtag, write # (the number sign) along with a topic or phrase and add it to your post. For example:

I just saw the cutest puppy! #dogs

When you click a hashtag, you’ll see a feed of posts that include that hashtag. You may also see some related hashtags at the top of the page.

Please keep in mind:

A hashtag must be written as a single word, without any spaces
You can include numbers in a hashtag, but punctuation and special characters (like $ and %) won’t work
You can search for a hashtag using the search bar at the top of any page
You’ll only see posts that were shared with you

Learn more about who can see your posts when you use hashtags.

Note: The hashtag feature isn’t available to everyone right now.

To Outsource or not to Outsource

Disadvantages of Outsourcing

Why you should never hire a company that outsources your work to another company. Just because you can outsource a task doesn’t mean you should.
Ok, your ready to start that website you have always wanted. You find a company that says “Sure We Will Build Your Website For You” and sends it to some other country to get it built. Who in their right mind would do this? Allot of people and big corporations, that’s who. You as the customer, will end up paying $2,500 to $5,000 for a $45 job without knowing it. Sad right? Not really, this could have been avoided by hiring a Web Designer or Webmaster directly.

And when you have problems or issues with your “Outsourced Project” now you have to go through 2 different companies which will take allot longer than going through one person.

Another huge disadvantage of outsourcing is the risk of losing extremely private data to thieves 12,000 miles away and the loss of confidentiality.

It is important to follow up on the company that outsourced your work to another company simply for profit with little or no accusal work, to make sure they dont just sell the job to some far away place that most (Not All) are high school or lower students trying to make website.

In addition, Losing management control of business functions means that you may no longer be able to control operations and deliverable activities that you outsource.
Serious problems with quality (Like Bad Grammar, misspelled words, broken code, spam etc) can arise if the outsourcing provider doesn’t have proper knowledge of your business and/ or is inexperienced in working in an outsourcing relationship.

Since the third party outsourcing provider may work with many other customers at once, they might not give your project 100% of the time and attention needed for a single company. This results in flaws, delays and inaccuracies in the work provided.

Also, hidden costs and legal problems may arise if the outsourcing terms and conditions are not clearly defined.

Risks like bankruptcy and financial loss cannot be controlled when dealing with a company you dont even know about.
Not understanding the culture and ability of the outsourcing provider and the location where the company you hired to outsource your project will lead to poor communication and lower productivity.

Though outsourcing has its share of advantages and disadvantages, the many headaches that outsourcing brings far outweigh its advantages.

This is why you should never hire a company that outsources to another company! Outsourcing to a third party = poor quality & non-scalable product. Period. End of story.

Get the latest information on choosing a Bohol web designer! Learn the techniques in web design and marketing and tips so finding the right designer at the right price wont be so hard.

Choosing a web design company that also offers Marketing and SEO services in addition to your building your new website is a good move.
Hiring a separate company or outsourcing your marketing and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) you would have to start the hiring process all over again and the results may not be what you had in mind.
Some web design companies claim they can market and SEO for an additional cost. here again you must follow up with this during the hiring process by contacting their previous customers and referrals.

If you just started looking around for a web design company in Bohol, you’re probably going to see many web designers that are available to offer their services for a CHEAP price, free this and free that. Some will offer template based websites that are thrown together and “Cheap” low cost you get what you pay for really.

Your options are pretty much endless when it comes to a professional website design. It really depends on how “Professional” you want to look on line with your business.
Again the company you choose will determine this.

Before contacting a designer, study their personal portfolio of previous designs and note if a web designer’s portfolio of sites includes bad graphics, in correct grammar and punctuation, misspelled words, corrupt links, or over dilapidated images. Make a note about different techniques and styles you like from each of the designers.

In conclusion:
Once you find a web designer that suits your businesses needs, ask them if you can contact their previous clients to assess how well they preformed and take note of any feedback about how well they worked with their given timelines, how easy they were to get a hold of in times of need, and how knowledgeable they were about marketing and web design.

If your in need of a web site for your business please drop us a line and we will be happy to discuss your possibilities, which by the way…are endless.

Hire a Webmaster/web designer or Design my Website Myself?

The problem with building your own website is not knowing the webmaster ropes!
Your looking at instant internet failure!

This happens when anyone that doesn’t have the proper skills to properly design and market a website, so you have to ask yourself Do I build it myself? Or Hire a Webmaster?

Lets take a look at pros and cons of building it yourself vs hiring a webmaster.

1. Time vs Cost

The first thing to think about is how much is your time worth as a business owner? If the answer is more than it costs to learn basic html, css and web design and implement a website (which would take about 3-6 months) depending on your learning curve, then it would not be worth the hassle.

2. Marketing and SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

When you hire a professional webmaster, it takes your business to the next level of “set it and forget it” let the webmaster handle everything from design, coding in your favorite social networks with custom backgrounds, setting up the domain and hosting, setting up the email accounts and completely filling out all the information for you, keeping track of updates and backing up your website regularly incase of a hacker attack. All these things the webmaster does will allow you to concentrate on what you do best to make money and run your business.

3. Communication

A good webmaster will always be in constant communication with you and coming up with new ideas to market your BRAND! If you tried to do this yourself, not only would it would take longer for you to do it as your probably not an expert with social networks and how to effectively use them.

4. Branding and Niche Marketing

Niche and branding is essential for growth of your business. A business owner would probably not be interested in spending hours on the computer for days trying to “Get His Brand Out”.

5. The look and Feel of a website…

More importantly the look and feel of your website will be greatly enhanced using a professional webmaster rather than attempting to do the graphics in paint 🙁 .

6. Webmaster VS Web Designer..Whats the difference?

The biggest mistake people make is when they hire a web designer
Folks, A webmaster knows every aspect of the “Internet” as a whole. Strong in skills like Graphic Design, PHP, SQL, CMS, HTML, CSS as well as social networking skills incorporating SEO as leverage to rank high in the search engines niche consulting you name it he knows it all.
A web designer on the other hand will only be proficient in code and development but NOT SEO or Marketing which is the foundation for success on the NET.

In Conclusion

When it comes to doing it yourself vs hiring a webmaster, you have to think “Will i study Auto Repair to repair my car?” or Study Dentistry to fix my own teeth? then why not hire a professional?
Whatever you decide, consider the entire project as a whole. The most important thing to keep in mind is making a solid decision that will make sense for you and your businesses online presence!
Doing it yourself is a great way to save money but it’s only worth it if you know what you’re doing, and most don’t. So in the end what matters is that your end product can be found easily in the search engines, Properly setup, is pleasing to the eye and the site converts into sales.

Would you build your own website? Or Hire a Webmaster/Web designer?

How to eliminate unnatural links

How to eliminate unnatural links | Solution | Fix

The first thing you think is “This unnatural links letter Sucks”……for anyone who received the letter from Google about “unnatural links” here is the fix for it plain and simple!

Studying the “unnatural links SOLUTIONS” letter after i received a email from a frantic potential new client “whats the Fix For This?” sent by Google to this frantic potential new client in Google Webmaster Tools, i decided to dig around the Google Webmaster forums and other reputable sources to read up on how to solve this problem.

The biggest question is: What are considered unnatural links or bad link building practices?
Here it is in a nutshell to make it simple to understand (even if your not-a-geek).
How to eliminate unnatural links
First, Google doesn’t tell you what they really want for linkbacks! they give you HINTS…… :)

You basically have no idea and have to guess…you will need to read through all the garbage written about this potential problem by some (“down the street joe’s information on how to solve this problem”) and come up with your own solution.
And Then there is Bohol Web Design who has spent 200+ hours researching this Google warning;

If you received this unnatural links letter i would suggest (due to many years of reading webmaster tips) doing the following procedure to rectify this.

First watch this video from Matt Cutts!

Second: Watch the video again… :)

You may ask…why is Google doing this to the little guy?

Google is doing this for the following reasons:

1. To Increase Google Ad Sense revenues
2. To Drive traffic to Google+ to “outdo Facebook and twitter”
3. Google would rather have huge corporations spend tons of money with Ad Sense rather than with little SEO companies too stupid to comply (95% of them).

You may say “this is Lame” and yes, i agree, but this is whats happening and as usual, the little guy takes the blunt of the Vipers strike, and then there is the little guy with the solution to the problem.
As stated in the video above explaining “What are some effective techniques for building links? ” question, he goes on to explain, “links are fine but if done in a proper way”.
Here is the proper way to “Link Back”:
(Links that are surrounded by fresh content “Like this article” and have a rel=”nofollow” tag on every outbound link and a generic “alttag” as well as a url shortener)
Will still have the functionality of the original purpose but avoid the “unnatural links” penalty and FREE YOU OF THIS BAD GOOGLE LETTER!
This is the fix people!

So…Whats the proper way to links in laymen terms?

here is an example of a Google Friendly Link:
Lets say i wanted to post this article on a blogger website (to gain a link back to this article for reference) and link back to the original content without getting penalized by Google.
Simple solution: You would comment on the original materiel on this post and provide a linkback that looks like this below:

I have read this article on “How to eliminate unnatural links” and i find it very informative pertaining to the new April, 2012 Google’s Panda new algorithms.

shortner found at http://tinyurl.com
you may say…“Yeah Baby I found the solution to this problem”

And your right you did…REMEMBER, i gathered this information spending hundreds of hours reading Google webmasters forum responses around the world testing different scenarios on my own and solutions dealing with this warning from Google Webmaster Tools

Now…follow the instructions in this simple to follow article and you will survive this.
